OK, you’re very interested “so what’s next”? First off, contact me via e-mail john@thesailingsharkadventures.com or call me at 1-970-231-8423. We don’t advertise because we don’t have too. With the exception of this web site (which is used primarily as information only). Our students come to us from the recommendations of  former students who valued the high quality professional service and experience we offer. I never take more then four students at one time. This insures that you get the personal service needed for your success and training.

We will provide you with a customized student kit that has a hand out containing all the forms and essentially explains the course and confined pool training segments in detail. You will be given an SDI pass code to start your on-line academics. The student kit also contains a custom logbook. This isn’t a cheap plastic one either but a nice zippered log book you can be proud of. It includes unlimited e-mail and phone support as you take the on-line academic course. Again, the benefit of this is that you can take it at your own pace in the comfort of your own home. The Open Water academic course, typically takes around 8 hr’s.

The confined water (pool) training will typically take 10.0 hours and can be done in one day. However, that makes for a very loooooong day. Some people prefer this due scheduling conflicts. I personally think it’s to the student’s advantage to split the time into two half day sessions at a minimum. This allows the student to do mental reviews and prepare for the next session. Typically every thing starts making sense after the first pool session and the student gets much more comfortable by the second session. If more time and practice is required  we will discuss options as needed for you to practice and become proficient in the pool.

SDI’s philosophy is that your skills should be honed and refined in the confined water (pool) training before ever  attempting to go on to your Open Water Certification. This is a different philosophy to other agencies  and resort courses. There are also numerous options we can discuss during your pool training for your Open Water Certification.

“What else”, we highly recommend you purchase your own Mask, Fins and Snorkel. These are items you can use to snorkel with and considered personal items or “first purchases” to equipping your new Scuba Set. Think of Scuba like golf. You can borrow clubs for a long time, but some day you’ll want your own. Also remember that you don’t put someone else’s golf clubs in your mouth, on your feet or squeeze your body into someone else’s 9 iron. Contact me at john@thesailingsharkadventures to discuss individual equipment or complete packages we recommend. I can also send you a direct link to my equipment page. Unlike buying off the internet, these come with full factory warranties and we back and service everything we sell.

So why choose us?  We offer personalized training because we invest in you, the diver, not overhead. The focus is on you, we won’t pack you into a large group. We also have all new training and rental equipment so you won’t be stuck in aged, worn out equipment that isn’t safe or comfortable. We utilize a full sized Olympic swimming pool to allow you the room needed to practice your new skills and  become a proficient diver. Another reason to choose us is for what we don’t offer, and that’s high pressure retail sales.
